Cycle 2: 1st-3rd grades (CP, CE1, CE2)
Fundamental Developmental Areas
Cycle 2 focuses on the comprehension and mastery of fundamental skills. Students learn to read, write, and communicate fluently in both French and English. Our French curriculum covers reading and writing, math, science, art activities, and physical education as well as social and emotional skills. Our English curriculum covers literacy and social studies as well as math; beginning in Cycle 2, we implement the Singapore Math curriculum.
Cycle 3: 4th-5th grades (CM1, CM2)
Consolidation of Developmental Concepts
Cycle 3 focuses on consolidating skills; students explore more complex concepts in a deeper way. By Grade 4, teaching is 50% in French and 50% in English. This bilingual approach ensures that academic goals are reached in both languages in order to facilitate a smooth transition to middle school.
Co-teaching Method and Bilingual Education
North Seattle French School is in the process of implementing co-teaching in our classrooms. Following this methodology, our French and English teachers at each grade level work closely together, devoting several hours weekly to joint planning times and collaborating on projects and curricular units. This approach enhances continuity in the classroom and reinforces skills taught in both curriculums and both languages.
